Maria Koshiishi is a Japanese mezzo-soprano based in the Netherlands, acclaimed for the deep, gorgeous color of her voice, her sensitive artistry, and a magnetic stage presence that spans repertoire from the Baroque era to the 21st century. She has steadily built a reputation as one of the most compelling emerging voices in the European opera scene, bringing both technical precision and emotional depth to every performance.
Her operatic career has taken her across a wide range of roles and styles. Among her most notable performances, she has portrayed Dorabella in Mozart's Così fan tutte at the Bredeweg Festival, Flora in Verdi's La Traviata at Festival Classique, Orlofsky in Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus, Dritte Dame in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, and Cesare in Graun's Cleopatra e Cesare. She also took on the role of Pasqualita in John Adams' Doctor Atomic — a production awarded best opera production in the Netherlands in 2023. She reprised the same role at Theater Bremen in 2024 and 2026.
On the concert stage, Koshiishi has performed as mezzo-soprano and alto soloist in a rich array of major works, including Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Mass in B minor and Magnificat, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Stravinsky's Les Noces, and Mendelssohn's Elijah and Paulus. She has also performed regularly with Bach Collegium Japan, one of the world's foremost period-instrument ensembles.
Most recently, her performance as Eduige in Handel's Rodelinda at the Hokutopia Music Festival in November 2025 earned glowing reviews, with critics praising her firm-toned mezzo, solid dark low notes, and impeccable sense of style.
Koshiishi holds a bachelor's and master's degree in classical singing from the Tokyo University of the Arts, and furthered her studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague on a Holland Scholarship before graduating from the Dutch National Opera Academy.

コンサートでは、メゾソプラノ・アルトのソリストとしてベートーヴェン《交響曲第9番》、モーツァルト《レクイエム》、バッハ《ロ短調ミサ》《マニフィカト》、ロッシーニ《小荘厳ミサ》、ストラヴィンスキー《結婚》、メンデルスゾーン《エリヤ》《パウルス》など多岐にわたる主要作品のソリストを務めている。世界最高峰のピリオド楽器アンサンブルのひとつ、バッハ・コレギウム・ジャパンとも定期的に共演している。
直近では、2025年11月の北とぴあ国際音楽祭においてヘンデル《ロデリンダ》エドゥイジェ役を演じ、批評家からも絶賛を受けた。芯のあるメゾの声質、しっかりとした深みのある低音、そして非の打ちどころのない様式感が高く評価された。
東京藝術大学にて声楽の学士・修士号を取得。その後、文化庁新進芸術家海外研修制度、オランダ奨学金を得てデン・ハーグ王立音楽院に留学し、オランダ国立オペラアカデミーを修了している。
